Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
Rating: ★★★★★
Reading this book was probably the best decision I made this summer! The story is a cute summery love story, with depth to it. It focuses on themes like love, loss and grief.
Perfect as your next book club pick!
PLOTLINE
To find their soulmates, all they need is four dates, a kiss and a breakup…
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it’s now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soulmate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They’ll date, break up – and cancel out each other’s curses. Emma hadn’t planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her bestfriend agree that dating Justin is to good an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.
It’s supposed to be a quick fling just for the summer. But when Emma’s toxic mother shows up and Justin has to assume guardianship of his three siblings, they’re suddenly navigating as lot more than they expected – including catching real feelings for each other. What if this time Fate has actually brought the perfect pair together?
MY THOUGHTS
This book was wonderful. It was easy to follow along to, and the romance seemed like it naturally progressed as they got to know each other. I think the characters are all well written, and their stories unfolds logically. You fall in love with the characters. Not only the main characters, but also their friends and family. At the same time it includes deeper subjects and themes, such as domestic violence, and the trauma from that experience. This add depth to the story, and the subjects are brought up both carefully and thought out. This is truly a heartfelt novel. It was both lovely and gut wrenching, I just couldn’t put the book down! You will smile, cry, laugh and even giggle!
Normally with romances I find them too long, especially the endings. They always have those last extra 100 pages where the couple end up breaking up, and getting back together again. At that point I’m usually waiting for the book to end..HAHA. With this one though, those last 100 pages were both heartbreaking and heartwarming. They shattered my heart and then mended it. I couldn’t stop crying, but I also smiled through every tear. You think you ever been in love? Read this book first!
